[cod] Howdy

CD Key question: Dedicated servers don't need CD Keys. You can totally
delete the file with the CD Key (I think the file was called "codkey"?),
and it would have no effect on the functionality whatsoever. In fact, I
recommend deleting it to eliminate ambiguity as to its effects.

Game browser question: let me clarify - you're trying to make this
visible to others outside the university? If you're only setting it up
for a LAN server, you can set dedicated 1 and probably be all set, but
it sounds like that's not what you're trying to do. I honestly have no
experience setting up the server for anything other than LAN, but from
the discussions I've seen on this list over the past year or so, I
*think* you can just plug in and go. There was a website with a list of
servers and their statuses floating around a while ago, back when
everyone and their mothers were troubleshooting their servers. If you
can find it, you can at least verify that your server is contacting the
master server. I don't have a URL, but I think it was somewhere on the
icculus website... Obviously, this question is best answered by someone
else on the list with more experience - but I answered your CD Key one!

Hope this helps.

PS: I turned 21 Friday, omg I feel like crap... wow...

I see the heartbeat messages. Its on a university LAN which does not
have any firewall blocking that traffic. I've verified that I can
connect to the server from my home by typing in the domain name or IP.
ohura.iarc.uaf.edu

The game plays fine and does what I expect it to, it just doesn't show
up in the join a game listing.

So I'm I correct in assuming that no special registration is required
to activision or gamespy to get this working? Meaning, anyone can
just simply hookup and go?

Another thing I was unsure of is CD Key. I know that on a Windows CoD
server the CD key has been already put in, but on linux there seems to
be no requirement for that. Is that correct?

Thanks,
