Max number of players

What is the max number of players that the server can handle? 64 ? 128 ?
32 ? A gaziilion ? << JK. Is it because of design or simply a hard number
drawn out of a hat ? Reason is that ThePhiperPipe server hosts 64 players
and it just hums -- rarely laggs. Recently there are some great maps such
as viewv1 than can hold 150+ players or more. Can you imagine a 200
players server!!!. Damn!!
