It is just hosts and no you do not need to reboot. In linux rebooting is for adding new hardware ;)

I have a few different host files hosts, hosts.conf, hosts.allow not sure which one it goes in. Do I have to restart after?

Sounds like your system is having DNS issues. Go to another machine and ping codmaster.activision.com to get the ip address. You can then add the ip/name to the host file under /etc/hosts or c:\windowsversion\system32\drivers\etc\hosts to get it to resolve.
