No way! I rather spend some time to find out solution than start to take
backups of all important files just that I can do clean install. Sure Clean
install is good to do sometimes, but it shouln't be first priority. If you
don't ever spend time to solve problems, you won't gain any experience. If
you once spend 3h to finds some problem, next time it takes maybe 2 minutes
to fix it.
IRL example: HP printer didn't work and I got call to come look it. Well
first I was thinking that I just reinstall drivers, well no go. I was like
WTF!? Then after some drivers reinstall, I finaly end up to device manager
and turned on switch "Show hidden devices" And there it was! Conflicting HP
printer, it just didn't show up in normal device manager view.
Now I have used that experience many times to fix same problem and it only
takes 30sec to remove that conflicting driver. No reason to do clean
install. IMHO

That's certainly an opinion I have in common with you. In my eyes it is
better to spend 7 hours on seeking and solving the real problem rather
than spending 4 hours on backing up everything and reinstalling my
entire system.<br>

Well maybe I don't have the perfect example PC, since I've got 2 TB of
discspace and rarely use removable media (e.g. cds,dvds,etc), (actually
if my hdd's are full my solution is buy a bigger one) which increases
my time backing up. But even if I discount all the time I've got to put
in the effort of backing every thing up I still come to the conclusion
that the time to find out what software I need on my pc takes longer
than one day or even a week, which means that in the long run I loose
more time than it would appear on first sight. Therefore I rather try
the aproach of, finding out what the REAL problem is, then to seek a
solution for it. When I've found one I'll back every thing up that
might be lost if the solution doesnt (or does) work, then I'll aply the
solution and write down my solution (type it actually, and put it in a
database, me=database freak) to the problem.<br>
