Yes, I'm running 8.0 and when I do df I see the /dev/shm.  Here is the
output:

Filesystem           1K-blocks      Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda2             76818080   8547000  64368892  12% /
/dev/hda1               101089     14726     81144  16% /boot
none                    256708         0    256708   0% /dev/shm

The problem I'm thinking is that there is no filesystem associated with
/dev/shm.
