rcon just stops working

Has anyone else found the rcon just stops working sometimes? The server 
is still listening on port 4711, but I don't get the digest response.

For example, this is what should happen:

 > telnet localhost 4711
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
### Battlefield 2 default RCON/admin ready.
### Digest seed: DHPgIpZUDyzyVIUV

Instead, I get:

 >telnet localhost 4711
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.

I don't see this in the buglist on the wiki.. so I'm wondering if anyone 
else has seen it before I log it.
