bfv servers not querying using gamespy protocol.

Ports are open,  packets are receive and well formatted but the server
doesn't respond. the ase protocol responds just not gamespy.
Starting with exactly the same install and config on another machine
works. Any ideas? Is there some sort of silly authentication step
the server must go through with a master server before it will
actually respond to a local query?

Any idea appreciate as we are at a LAN and on one can play
BFV due to this issue.
