Heres a comparison on CS
Total of win and linux 25,334 servers

Linux has 16,355 server
http://www.upperboard.com/linux.jpg
Its not rocket science to know that linux is designed as a server and
windows as a desktop OS , windows is not a great dedicated server,
Your lucky after a few days that its not locked up or players complaining
about lag!!
Linux stays on for months running in perfect harmony..
The Professionals that run server Know how to use a linux server wereas the
windows guys need a simplfied and easy way to setup their server
And if they want a real windows server then itll cost you 1,000 for the
latest win 2003 server..
Face it!! If the linux server isnt being supported for a game then that
means the coders don't know a damn thing or are attempting to learn the
linux code..
So instead they buil windows server "the simple and easy way to got for them
"
Again real pros use linux for servers and windows server version "mainly for
webservers using windows asp,xml sql"
M
Only other reason EG games could be leaning on MC windows is because
Microsoft could have share intrest invested...

Will they come back once the server is ready?
How much demand are we talking? If you've got serious numbers, and can show
that lack of a Linux server caused clients to displace to a competing game,
then you take those numbers to EA so that Linux servers for future games
will get proper funding and prioritization.
