They will all run flawlessly on Linux as well. :-p ...and I have never seen a difference in performance or resource utilization between BSD and Linux. The only thing I have noticed between the 2 in the dedicated server world is things like this where Linux is first supported before BSD.

I just figure run the most widely used *nix environment since it is the most supported and I have never seen a difference in performance between them. It just makes it that much easier. :)

Original Message -----------------------
That's what I was afraid of.. Unfortunately, I think this decision has
hosed a lot of Game Server hosting companies and other individuals like
myself.

Requiring people to go to FreeBSD 5 to get the server to work is like
telling people .. If you want to run our game server, you have to upgrade
to Windows XP because it won't run on Windows 2000, so I think your STILL
going to have a hard sell once they do get stdc++ in FBSD 5.

And, I'll be damned if I'm gonna load Linux on a box just to run
Battlefield 1942 Dedicated server, where all the rest of my servers
(ut2k3, soldier of fortune 2, jedi knight 2) run flawless on FreeBSD.

Sigh.
