Good to know.

What Linux know-how does DICE have? I ask because the Windows dedicated 
server is deeply intertwined with DirectX, making it clear that the coder 
was not thinking of portability when he wrote it. (I've ported stuff from 
platform to platform and architecture to architecture, so I know the 
mindset necessary.) One has to NOT use the cool platform-specific API's, or 
at least add a wrapper or comments so that when it's ported to the other 
platforms, one knows what one needs to re-implement.

This is where cross-platform frameworks are very important. SDL comes to 
mind.
