[bf1942] linux dedicated server install guide

change

"admin.enableRemoteAdmin User Password 4711"

to

"admin.enableRemoteConsole User Password 4711"

PS. I don't advise using the default username and password on an internet
server for obvious security reasons.

You need to enable it in your adminsettings.con file, just add:

admin.enableRemoteConsole <username> <password> <port>

Hmm, no good for me.

I have reinstalled it all, using the two file listed below and run it.
Can't connect, doesn't seem like the remote admin port is open at all.
(4711) is that right?

I can do anything anyone might suggest. Post my ServerSettings.con or
screen dumps etc.

Oh well. Will wait and see if anyone can help out some more.

Back to my dedicated winxp boxen.

Thanks for the help.

Zach

You might be right there.
I downloaded but didn't try the first one because of hearing all the
problems.

The two files I need to install on my linux box are:

bf1942-lnxded-1.2beta1.tar.bz2 - 50mg or so
bf1942-lnxded-betaupdate-build-1041834125.tar.bz2 - 6mb or so

Is that correct?

I only installed the update and am hence missing all the directories.
Maybe a reference to the fact you need the first 50mb file then install
all subsequent updates after that. Might help all the silly people like
me that come into this late.

My bad.

Thanks for the help. Really appreciated.
Last question - can you control the linux server using the built in
remote server util and also blackbagops updated remoteserver util?

Cheers

Zach

I am thinking that he might have installed just a patch if he has only
those directories.

Your serversettings.con will be in mods/BF1942/Settings. I couldn't
imagine why screen wouldn't work.

thats it?

When I get into the mods directory there is no serversettings.con or any
files at all.

So I don't need any other files?

Can someone list what the dirs should contain?

Do you know if you can use screen instead of &?

cheers

Zach

nohup ./bf1942_lnxded &

Using the "nohup" will log the servers starting progress to a file, and
using the "&" will start the server in a background process.

Can somone give me a quick rundown on the linux
dedicated server install.
I have unzipped and untarred the package but then have
only the following files and directories:

bf1942_lnxded
mods
MultiplayerServers
README-bf1942-lnxded.txt

Where to from here?
Do I need to move any files from the bf1942 cd's?

thanks for the help.

Zach
