[bf1942] Best Version of Linux to run for this test?

I am running on RH8 and FreeBSD 4.7. With RH I see similar behavior to
sittnduck, no crashes but lags badly after a few minutes or several
players.  On FreeBSD it runs fairly well till I get above 8 players but
does not stay stable for more than about 30 to 60 minutes.  As far as my 3
other bf1942 windows servers, the app on those crash at least 3 to 4 times
daily :).  All boxen are sitting on a 100mb transit feed to L3/UUnet and
the hardware is Atlhon 2100s with 512mb DDR 2100.
