I think it takes a beefier box on the linux server because its still
beta and running debug code. I'm sure that Ryan plans to optimize its
performance after he gets it stable.

server. I have run a lan party serving 20 players on a Win32 (Win98SE)
box
(P3-550 512Mb RAM) in non-dedicated mode (is it called a 'listen server'

BF1942?) with no problems. No-one was actually playing the toon on that
machine and I did not know the server commands at the time so ran as a
non-dedicated server so that it was easier to admin. I am confused as to
why
you seem to need a machine 3 or 4 times quicker than that to run the
same
amount of players in a linux version as a console app. Is this something
that we are likely to see improve as it gets smoothed out in the beta
stages?
