[bf1942] BF and wineX 3.1

Hi,

the client works fine. Winex3.2.1 has a number of improvements though.
It won't work out of the box though. Since 1.5, I think the version of
Safe Dsic used changed and WineX can't deal with it. To get around this
you need to find a cracked exe that will let you play the game with out
a CD. It will still ask you for the CD when playing it but with the
crack it will accept the disk. With out the cracked exe you will insert
your Battle Field CD and again the message returns, "Insert BF CD".
This is not uncommon. I don't think that transgaming encourage this at
all and I am sure that DICE will forbid it ;). But it is the only way
to get it working. It isn't DICE or Transgaming's fault. There just
isn't safe disc support in linux.

I am not sure about the legal side of using a cracked EXE but there is
another danger in that the servers you might connect to will recognise
that you are using a modified exe and present you with the message "Data
Difers from server". You won't be able to play in this case.

Hope this info helps

Cheers

Rony
