If you like freebsd/ports, youll most likely like gentoo and portage (same
general idea as ports, just taken further and a lil more modern)

and yes, I enjoy gentoo due to its ease of update/package installation, high
configurability, and how lean and fast the base install is, esp when you can
compile everything for your specific cpu.  and yes, this does make a
difference in a lot of respects.
