crashes

[Chris Case]

Trying to help someone out on the gentoo forums...says they start up the 
game and it just crashes.  His system is: 900mhz Athlon XP
512mb ram
Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 420 64meg apg card (drivers ver: 4363)
Giga-byte GA-7IXE MoBo
Red Hat 9 (Fully updated using RH updater)

And as i understand it he has it installed (v 170) in his Home

Looks like to me he is having issues with permissions maybe?  Or maybe 
he has a corrupt ini file?
