It's possible. There are packagings like this in Debian, but I'm not
sure of their details myself. You may be right that a binary
distribution would be ultimately pointless, though. I expect that
people who get the game data also get a compiled binary with it, so
they wouldn't be too interested. The target audience would be
tinkerers who presumably would build themselves anyways.
