Another possibility (but I don't know enough about Lua to know if it's
possible) would be to add some kind of automatic coercition function
to the metatable of light userdata.

If it's not possible to put the Lua scripts under revision control,
maybe that particular script can be updated to either comment out that
line or replace it with something that uses e.g. the entity name
instead of its number?
